Season Passholders, do you track your visits to Knott’s Berry Farm on the app?  I love seeing the number go up and up! Each visit to Knott’s is unique and exciting, largely because we have the chance to be part of the fun. During summer’s Ghost Town Alive, we got into character by dressing up as residents of Calico. With Halloween’s Knott's Spooky Farm now in season, we knew costumes that would allow us to be part of the fun were in order.

A family favorite is “The Monsters are Coming” performed on the Camp Snoopy Theater.  Charlie Brown and his pals are dressed in their own Halloween costumes at a blast to the past Halloween party, complete with a spooky radio show on the airwaves.  My three girls were smitten with the poodle skirt-clad lead of the show, so we made our very own Knott’s Berry Farm-inspired poodle skirts.

When there’s Snoopy on your poodle skirt, you can call it a Beagle Skirt!

Make Your Own DIY Poodle Skirt

Making the skirts required two steps: making the skirt and the felt applique. The skirts were made using Simplicity’s 3836 patterns to sew the circle skirts for each of my three girls.  There are some easy no-sew tutorials online if you’d rather skip the sewing, and get to riding HangTime a little faster.

I knew my girls wanted to feature PEANUTS characters in costume on their skirts, so we researched online.  In the end, they decided on vampire Snoopy, mummy Snoopy and Woodstock, and Lucy as a witch. I cut the designs out of felt and hand-sewed them.

Once the skirts were completed, the appliques were sewn onto the skirt along with ric-rac to add a little more fun to the skirts.

Completing their 50’s inspired look was easy with white polos from the uniform section.  We also nabbed some inexpensive white tennis shoes. A black permanent marker or acrylic paint can easily transform tennis shoes into saddle shoes in a snap!

Dressed in their DIY Poodle Skirts featuring PEANUTS characters, they were ready for time hanging out on the boardwalk, drinking milkshakes and planning out which rides they’d go on next.

Dressing up in costumes is only part of the fun of Knott’s Spooky Farm!  Geared for kids 3-11, the festive activities are included in your general admission ticket.  Upon entry, children will receive complimentary bags to trick-or-treat around Calico. Don’t miss the candy station by Silver Bullet.  You’ll also find some fun photo ops there!
