How to Make Your Own PEANUTS Costume

Do you love Charlie Brown as much as we do?  My family and I go nuts for the PEANUTS Gang.  When we heard about the all-new Season of Fun coming to Knott’s Berry Farm--the Knott’s PEANUTS Celebration--we knew we had to do something special.  To help celebrate the Knott’s PEANUTS Celebration, we made our own DIY PEANUTS Costumes.

Peanuts Costumes for the Knott's PEANUTS Celebration

These easy & inexpensive costumes made for themed fun and cute photos, especially with the comic-themed backdrops around the park.
To make costumes for each of my three girls, I was able to customize pre-made clothing.  Each costume cost me around $10 to create.

Make your own Lucy Peanuts Costume

Lucy

The doctor is in...in costume that is!  To make Lucy’s dress, I started with a blue polo dress.  I found mine online, but you can also check out stores that sell school uniforms.  Lucy’s embellishments include 4 large black buttons, stitching around the collar, and a black ribbon at the waist.  Simply attach the 4 buttons to the chest of the dress with black thread.  Because my “Lucy” loves Silver Bullet, I also attached the black ribbon with a few stitches to keep it secure.  To add a little extra Lucy flair, I used a simple blanket stitch around the collar of the dress.

Now she’s ready to steal footballs or bites of funnel cake!

Sally

My sweet babboo skipped into the park dressed as Charlie Brown’s younger sister, Sally.  I started with a pink polo dress, similar to the dress for the Lucy costume.  To make Sally’s signature polka dots, I used black paint and a circular paintbrush on the front of the dress.  Depending on the thickness of the dress material, you may want to put cardboard inside of the dress while dotting your way into adorable.  Once dry, flip the dress and add dots to the back.

Woodstock

We all have our favorites, and for my tween it’s Woodstock. It’s okay that Woodstock isn’t a great flyer; soon HangTime will be lifting us all into the air!  To make Woodstock’s costume, I nabbed a yellow tee and beanie.  To recreate the messy mohawk of feathers atop the bird’s head, I stitched two rows of loops into the beanie using yellow yarn.  My beanie had a line down the center.  If yours doesn’t, you’ll want to draw your own to keep the loops straight.  Once the two-inch loops were sewn down the center, I cut them at the top.

She’s ready to leave the nest!

Charlie Brown

My husband was looking forward to Charlie Brown Day at Knott’s so he already had a Charlie Brown shirt at home.  If you’re looking to DIY your own, all you’ll need is a yellow tee and black paint.  Paint the signature chevron pattern halfway between the center and bottom of the shirt.

Snoopy

I had so much luck getting pre-made clothing items to make our DIY Costumes come together in a snap.  For my own Snoopy costume, I donned a pair of Snoopy’s ears purchased at Knott’s & wore black and white.  Now that the PEANUTS Headquarters is open in the California Marketplace, I’m looking forward to adding more themed apparel.
