A Look Back: HangTime Construction

In August 2017, we celebrated National Roller Coaster Day, by announcing that HangTime would be coming to Knott’s Berry Farm in summer 2018.

It took the hard work of 38 companies with 190 individuals to construct first dive coaster in California. HangTime was manufactured by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides and classifies as an Infinity coaster with a vertical lift rising 150ft over the Knott’s Boardwalk and 5 gravity-defying inversions with over 130 columns to support it all. As the sun sets, HangTime features a unique track chase lighting package designed by KCL Electrical Engineering to mimic the crashing and swell of ocean waves. The authentic surfboards displayed at the ride entrance, queue, and merchandise store were designed and shaped by a local surfer, Rocky McKinnon, of McKinnon Surf Boards from Huntington Beach. After 24 weeks of work, and over 360 hours of construction, riders were finally able to experience the new thrills in May of 2018.

Thanks to the hard work of all these people and more, Knott’s Berry Farm can shred some gnarly thrills on HangTime.
