A Look Back: HangTime Construction
May 17, 2018This past August, we celebrated National Roller Coaster Day, by announcing that HangTime would be coming to Knott’s Berry Farm in summer 2018.
Since then, 38 companies with 190 individuals have been hard at work constructing the first and only dive coaster in California. HangTime was manufactured by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides and classifies as an Infinity coaster with a vertical lift rising 150ft over the Knott’s Boardwalk and 5 gravity-defying inversions with over 130 columns to support it all. As the sun sets, HangTime will feature a unique track chase lighting package designed by KCL Electrical Engineering to mimic the crashing and swell of ocean waves. The authentic surfboards displayed at the ride entrance, queue, and merchandise store were designed and shaped by a local surfer, Rocky McKinnon, of McKinnon Surf Boards from Huntington Beach. After 24 weeks of work, over 360 hours of construction, riders will finally get to experience the new thrills coming to Knott’s.
Thanks to the hard work of all these people and more, Knott’s Berry Farm is ready to shred some gnarly thrills on HangTime.
