Get to Know the Knott's Anniversary Ambassador Team - Parks and Cons

Knott's Berry Farm

Knott’s Berry Farm is home to world-class rides, thrilling roller coasters, shows & attractions in 4 themed areas including Old West Ghost Town and Camp Snoopy.

This week on the Knott's Berry Blog, we'll be continuing our weekly series where we feature each one of our Knott's Anniversary Ambassadors. Our Knott's Anniversary Ambassadors are part of a yearly program where we work with prominent local bloggers who have a passion for all things Knott's!

This week we'll be featuring Parks and Cons.

Tell us about your outlet:

We cover the best in conventions, themed entertainment, and other fun experiences in California and beyond, through our podcast, YouTube channel, and social media.

Tell us about yourself:

I was born in Santa Ana, CA, and have lived in Southern California since.  Shawn, my husband, and I met while attending high school in Riverside, CA.  We began dating June 3, 1995, and were married June 3, 2000.  We have three fur-babies; two cats named Nova and Mia Wallace and a dog named Doctor Zaius.  We stay quite busy, attending theme parks and pop-culture conventions, as often as possible!

Not too long after getting together, we started incorporating theme parks and conventions into our entertainment, when we were not in class or working.  Eventually, we reached a point where we became pretty knowledgeable and began sharing our experiences and offering help to others.  This began, simply, with Shawn's personal Twitter account, @The_Con_Fluence.  We, then, created a website,  As we began incorporating more theme parks into our coverage, we established Parks and Cons in 2014.

Parks and Cons is primarily a hobby, that we use as an escape from all the real-world challenges, like work and bills.  We have been blessed with a great number of friends and experiences that we would never have encountered without Parks and Cons!

Favorite Knott's Memory:

Over the years, we have created tons and tons of amazing memories at Knott's Berry Farm.  Selecting a favorite memory is rather challenging!  Probably, my favorite memory, overall, would be attending Knott's Scary Farm Scare School and getting a behind the scenes tour, in 2014, as Parks and Cons.  It was so surreal to observe the development of an event we love so much!  We have been attending Knott's Scary Farm, since 1997.

Outside of a media event, my favorite memory would be riding Huff and Puff, with my brother and sister, when we were young and small enough to fit in the vehicles!  I thought it was so fun and freeing to be moving my own vehicle!  Though it was frustrating that my brother struggled with it because he was 3.5 years younger than me, it was still fun trying to push him along!

Top Three Must Do's for People Visiting the Park:

  1. Try a boysenberry dessert.
  2. Get robbed on The Calico Railroad.
  3. Enjoy one of the fantastic shows.

Any Fun Tips for People Visiting the Park:

  • Bring a pair of flip-flops to ride Calico River Rapids.
  • Dining plans are a very economical way to eat plenty and stay full.
  • Try to eat during off-times, to reduce wait times.
  • Early in the morning or later in the evening can be good times to get on popular rides.
  • Off-season weekdays have so much to offer, with relatively short waits and lots of great options for entertainment.
  • Take time to take a break while watching a show.
